We invite you to Celebrate America’s 250th Anniversary with The Liberty Belles!
Vaudeville meets Hollywood in this 1940’s vintage madcap comedy with music.
The Liberty Belles is a small cast, one-set original story featuring 30+ hits from the Great American Songbook of the World War II era. It is the story of a family of estranged Vaudevillians reuniting for an audition that could transport them all to war-torn Europe in a big Hollywood U.S.O. review.
This female-driven comedy takes audiences on a journey celebrating the bonds of family, reconciliation, patriotism, ambition, forgiveness – and that unique spark of American courage and can-do.
The Liberty Belles offers iconic characters brought together is an absurdly contrived circumstance orchestrated by the matriarch of the clan, virtuoso Bebe LeGrand. Each woman embodies a different quality of love and each faces issues that are timeless in this contemporary take on the classic genre. Its messages are positive. Its hilarity assured! When, ultimately, they all learn why it is imperative they audition and be hired for this England-bound U.S.O. tour, each woman must overcome past differences and, thereby, enable their eccentric producer – and a mysterious lady bellhop – to transform the rusty troupe into genuine Hollywood material.
Austin Live! Theatre wrote: “The Liberty Belles is the fondest homage to the ‘30’s and ‘40’s dream factory versions of showbiz. As we watch these plucky characters, we almost have the feeling of being in the balcony at The Rialto for a classic Saturday matinee.”
In tribute to its family values, The Senate of Texas issued Proclamation 930 in praise of this production’s positive and inspiring contribution to the Arts in the Lonestar State.
